Funny.......
They wont have learned their lesson though, they will blame the track, tyres, some mechanical failure well before he will say I stuffed up.

Hi all.
Was up at Big River for queens birthday and we ran into these blokes in a shorty patrol with massive feet....deer hunter types...young and cocky.
Anyway, next day we saw the same vehicle abandoned up one of the shortcuts in a bad way...stuck on a 45 degree, rocky, rutty slope a 100 metres from top and bottom, bottomed out on a log, smashed against a tree and rear axle half hanging off!
We guessed they tried their decent a bit too quick.....
If anyone reading has driven the 2 shortcuts off Frenchmans track you know they would need a long hard think on just how the hell they'd get it out of there!
Sorry there's no pic - both me and my navvy were too busy gawking and forgot! Absolutely nowhere to park in this spot anyway....
Just goes to show sometimes your balls can be a little TOO big.....

even been invited to do a night run up shortcut2 after a few ales
but declined well and truely
by the sound of it they were lucky not to do any serious damage to themselves as for the poopie who cares

As far as I'm aware, short cut 2 has been graded. Which part of short cut 1 did he loose it on, as the only really hard bit is in a deep rut where you can't loose it, unless it's really wet, as the by pass for that bit is extremely slippery.
The second part of this video, where it is wet, is short cut 1 track. The non rutty part is the by pass for the hard part. This was taken on Anzac weekend this year. For the record, no one got up the hard part, and only three cars got up the by pass.

Cool - thanks for posting this video. Wish some of the clips hadn't been short - i wanted to know what happened to the Patrol at 1.15mins, started sliding backwards ominously.
Can someone help me in my 4wding ignorance, it looked like most ppl were taking even the dry rocky parts at a fair speed. Is that because it was steeper than it looked & they needed momentum, or would a 'slow & steady' approach have worked better? Looked like there was a lot of bouncing around.
As I said, 4wd ignorance - I'm here to learn as much as possible!
Similar thoughts.... bouncing aruond on stoney tracks when a slower pace may have been gentler on vehicles and picking better lines. But then again it must have been pretty steep... ??? Don't think I;m interested in pushing my own vehicle that hard in and through those deep mud ruts. Don't have the $$ to maintain a rig when things obviously will go bang....
As a matter of interest what is the track graded in terms of difficulty and for you who are in a club what are minimum rig setups to tackle these places??
