Easo's trip to Bovington Tank Meusem.

    G'day all,
Last week I took a trip to the Tanks in Bovi. Sadly alot of it is in the process of refurbish so some of the collection was missing, however the good stuff like the tiger and king tiger were there. I'm going back soon for the Tankfest. Any way pics time.

    Firstly the aussie sentinal.

Oneof the big displays feturing the early mk tank. This is the veiw from the trench.

    King tiger.

This is a centurion BARV Beach Armoured Recovery Vehical, it has had a long service life, it was in the faulklands in 82 and working in the first gulf 92 being replaced shortly after.

This centurion has been cut in half and every thing exposed to veiw its a realy good job.

This is anoyher Cent, but it has been converted into a target tank, so some poor bugger has the job of driving it back and forward getting shot at. OH&S!! I'm pretty sure they used solid concret shot.

I,m having trouble uploading some vid of the tiger being towed.

    Anyway enjoy, Easo

That australian tank has three engines set up in a triangle. From memory it came out in 39-40 and was ahead of all the pom rubbish. There is one at Canberra. Pat

Thanks heaps for posting that for those of us who can't visit . . . yet.

I've just finished Len Deighton's "Blood, Tears, and Folly" and it's an excellent account of what you might call the "dumber" side of WWII. He covers a lot of the mistakes and stupid decisions and also how Germany and Japan, once committed to so much fighting, couldn't keep up the supplies and manufacturing for what they took on. Hence the Germans could make some great weaponry but what with one thing or another couldn't, or wouldn't, make enough of it.

By the way, is that a gumboot under the target tank? Did someone have a bad day?
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
