Thread: Cheap Chainsaw

a failing chainsaw can equal death -imagine the variation in quality...

a failing jigsaw or drill can be a bit of a pain, but hardly likely to kill you...

they are a feckin dangerous tool at the best of times, no a hope in Hades of getting me to pay that little for such a tool.

A lot of those small saws come out of the same US factory, i have a 14" Poulan i got for $60 that was hardly used but for $99 i would have bought the GMC. I'm no lumber jack and i cut wood for home use so i dont need an over priced monster.

I have a Stihl, but use it all the time so in that scenario would only buy good quality brand name saws that are proven over time. But for the occasional use I don't see there would be anything wrong with the cheaper saw. As previously said, if anything goes wrong, just throw it away and get a new one. I wouldn't even replace the chain when it eventually needs doing.

GMC's warranty is so good that if it failed in warranty, they'd replace it.

I had an 18v saw battery that wouldn't last very long. They sent me two new ones and didn't ask for the old one back.

I've been told by others that they have had similar experiences.

I have another 5 chainsaws in the garage. A stihl, husky, echo,shindawa of varying sizes & a couple of pole chainsaws. I use a chaisaw on average about once a week & have done so 4 the last 30 years. Im not a logger or lumberjack but I can sharpen a chainsaw.
The main reason I posted was 2 inform ppl of a deal they may wish 2 consider. Its horses 4 coarses just like Loanrangie said.
I hardly feel its an unsafe saw just because of the price u pay,most accidents r caused by operator error rather than equiptment failure but not all.
Its an extremely compact chainsaw & something I thought others may wish 2 consider 4 limited use,as I said b4, maybe Im just a sucker, time will tellCheers Dean.

dontcha mean a tree feller/tree surgeon/arbourist?

regarding the safety aspects, all it takes is a dodgy link in a chain and you can be pretty much cut to ribbons by a saw chain... motors etc - warranty jobs... dodgy chain? I don't want to think about it. At the very least replace the chain with something good!!

Not really, If you've ever lost a chain, they simply tangle up, no time for whip as the drive sprocket tugs them in to quick

I wouldn't be concerned at all about the safety aspect, anymore than I would any other saw, especially when they're so itty bitty and cute
