    best economy ever!

    Hi guys

just been on a long weekend (4 days) to margaret river and Augusta, fantastic down there.. went whale watching winery touring and a stroll down Bussleton jetty. Will Deffo be heading back there in the summer!

anyway... gave the Disco an Oil change before we went and TOOK THE ROOF BARS OFF (Rola racks bars and Brackets, rounder shaped ones not the square ones)

Filled up at united before we went... drove down around and back 850.2k's all up.. and filled up when we got back.. 81.5 litres thats an economy of 9.58l/100k! I have never had that before and its a huge improvement compared with the roof bars on!

anyway just wanted to share that!

    Thanks

    Steve

sorry Andy but how many tonnes were you towing to get that? and what you got on top? the roof bars that i had (no tray or anything) probably knocked at least a 150k's off it! i was amazed!

and if it makes you feel any better... its 183.9 here in the north... and in Margaret river it was 198.9! eyes nearly fell out then!

    thanks

I noticed a huge difference when I took my Rola Racks off also.

And how nice is it down at Augusta. I love it down there. Can't wait to head down there again.

    I achieved a similar comsumption (9.6 l/100km) on a recent run from Sydney to Cooma (39.2l for 408kms) driving 2001 Td5 Diso at 100 to 110km/hr.
Once again, best I've achieved from the Td5. Usually around the 11 l/100km with mixed driving conditions.
I think we're all maintaining a steadier right foot these days!

yeah speed was between 70 and 110, depending on limits... but mainly running on cruise control as i was being lazy... so i wasnt really being ultra careful... im sure i could get better if i had been bothered.... i guess you could say that the economy was accidental... im pretty sure that i could of had about 1000k's out of the tank... as it holds a little more than 90litres...

    Thanks

Coincidentally I got my best consumption just recently too - a mere 19 L/100km for the V8 on LPG, mainly city driving.

Well, I was happy. At least it's cheap fuel.

Well that works out at around $13.00/100km for a V8 on lpg, whereas the tdis or td5 figures are working out at around $20/100km.... mmm .. just waiting for my V8 to go lpg.

If I were dirt kms for distance and in out back - no choice but diesel. But because i do relatively short runs on the eatestern seaboard the lpg lokks attractive. (Also cuts down on oil changes as runs cleaner).

the one disadvantage of LPG over diesel is range... i should imagine the range is fairly bad at 19l/100k's even if it is cheap but yes it does look attractive.. im wondering what will happen when this subsidy or tax break (whichever it is) is taken away on LPG?

    Thanks
