    Full time or part time?

I just thought I'd get a poll here

After a recent thread on OL I thought I;d get a rover biased opinion as opposed to jappers, just for giggles

Even in the slowest production car in the world ... OK OK ... except Tdi's ..

The fender handles corners on wet bitumen far better with constant 4WD.

Fulltime - so i can get the huge amounts of torque to the bitumen from the TDI . I much prefer fulltime to the part time skittery jap vehicles.

    Full time all the way.

The poll on OL makes no sense anyway. Asking "what do you drive", just proves that the majority of the sheeple in the 4x4 world own hiluxes or patrols. No surprises there.

I thought it was a Jeep question as in jeeps you have the choice of 2wd, full time or part time 4wd......

    To translate :

2wd = rear wheel drive, great fun but not very practiacal with a 4.0 straight 6 under the bonnet of a 1200kg car which is top heavy.

Full time = like the P38a or later model classic rangie where it has a viscous coupling where the centre diff should be.

Part time = Locked TC so equal power front and rear.

So in other words, Jeep see it as when it should be used rather than what it mechanically is....

So if it were in a Jeep, I'd have them both plus 2wd for drift action.

In a Pootrol or landcruiser, you have 3 tonne holding it to the ground so It probably doesnt need 4wd most of the time as it sinkes deep enough into the tar how it is.

But in a Landy, it is called Constant 4wd or All wheel drive and rarely full time 4wd as they arnt full time unless your talking Jeep speak

Sorry Matt, Im n ot trying to stir the pot......really.....

    According to land rover instuction

Allwheel drive means part 4 wd when it wants to be

4 Wd means always 4 wd weither you want it or not

the reason i put the post on ol is to see what people prefer to drive as a daily driver weekend 4wd .all i ever got from the rover forum was a defensive one sided ,i know better than you competition . i have converted my defender 110 to a part time and it handles brilliantly sure its not as good in the wet but it takes off faster has less vibration and you would be surprised how much noise is gone and there is absolutely no backlash its like driving a car even my mechanic that has worked on land rovers his whole career and couldent understand why i wanted to do the conversion was impressed when he took it for a drive .im not saying every one should do the conversion sure you dont have to put up with heaps of backlash in a auto. sure you need all the traction you can get in a top heavy disco .but for me it works

Ahh, just putting it up here for a stir

I'm well aware of all the charecteristics, My first Rangie was rear wheel for years and others, even my diesel I'm driving now, without a front prop, but not for long, cause its crap And don;t go real far in the bush without front drive
