Just sold the '97 300TDi Defender and it had sheepskin seat covers in the back which it inherited from the front of its predecessor, the '89 troopy.
The sheepskin didn't make them lounge chairs but it made them a lot better - at minimal cost.
I have a 2005 TD5 with the standard seats. The family is now finding the standard seating to hard for the long drives. Does anyone know what is a option that doen't break the bank? thanks macro.

I guess that you are talking about a Defender?![]()
Thanks guys, yes I was speaking of my beloved Defender. In the old days of the SII III you could alway get low set Jap car seats to fit in.(they were probably a lot worse than these, but were luxury then!) I was watching ABC "Big Cat Dairy" and the defender there has broad car seats installed, so I figured that some one has done this all before. The sheep skin option I tried on my previous Td4 130 but were probably not good enough as they had been used on 1 RR and 3 Dis previously!
You will run into ADR issues fitting non-standard chairs.
Why not visit an automotive upousterer and see what they can do.
Had a very ordinary tojo 75ser drivers chair converted into a comfy seat(work vehicle) by the local bloke.

I think LandyAndy has the right idea. Find a local motor trimmer/upholsterer, and ask what he can do to improve the seats. Should be able to make a marked improvement without breaking the bank and without problems with getting modifications engineered.
In reasonable condition the front seats are quite comfortable, so I suppose you are talking about the back seat. These have varied somewhat from year to year, and you might want to look at a later one to see what has changed. In any case, the upholsterer should be able to widen both the seat and the squab, increase the padding and shape it better.

I am not a big bloke at all and I find the front seats quite comfortable. Except, why do they make the seat so short.
Width is fine but an extra couple of inches in length never goes astray.![]()

OK, thanks for the info. I know that Wiltshires are pretty good here in Adelaide, so I 'll try my luck there. Sorry about the delay in reply - Lamb marking!![]()
Hi Utemad,
No, "Big Cat Diary" is a natural history series. They track (& comment on) big cats such as a lion pride, a mother & baby cheetah etc.
Quite fascinating,
