I've cleaned my intercooler etc once and got a lot of crap out but I've been hesitant to do it too often because I had t bend the ais con condensor brackets upward to get the radiator top plate off (300tdi Defender) Is ther another way other than brutalising the brackets?

Results seem mixed but I'll give it a crack anyway. can't hurt.

I used this when I did my valves, has a good explanation on it much easier than trying to churn through the rave pages.

Download PDF Land Rover 300 TDi Diesel Engine Overhaul Manual | PDFTown.com

I was alone when i did mine i put a big socket on the pulley and a long ratchet handle and turned it from above, had to reach in an over put it worked ok.

I don't remember why it was arkward from the top, maybe I just really really really don't like doing anything that's going to remove bark, but I've also got a recollection I didn't have enough clearance to the radiator with a socket & bar, so I used a spanner from underneath. Anyhow it only took 20mins so she didn't complain too loudly.

I can't open or download that for some reason John.

I just had a squiz in RAVE and can't find a proceedure as such that's as simple as the haynes book had it.
Haynes showed it blow by blow, when a particular valve is fully open then it tells you which valve is at the back of the lobe, so it's that easy Nana could do it.
I can scan the page tonight for others.

All of my previous cars/bikes had OHC engines (see how young I am) which are as easy as just having one set of valves rocking and checking it's opposing pot, and you can actually sight the cam.
