For the Ship Spotters - Greenpeace Esperanza

For all the ship spotters out there...

The boys and I did the tour today. Bit disappointing as all we got to see was the top deck, helicopter hanger and bridge.

I was in Auckland a few years ago when Rainbow Warrior II steamed into the harbour. I made a remark to my colleague that they were brave. I later saw on the news that it was the anniversary of the sinking - made my comment appear in even worse taste than I had intended.

oh dear looks like you've stirred them from their sleep again .....

hope you enjoyed the visit shame you didn't see below decks but then it's probably just full of leso, pinko, whale loving, tree hugging, chardonnay sipping poofters ...
I remember driving to work in Auckland when the news came over the radio about the Rainbow Warrior bombing ... went down to the wharf for a look. Pretty big news in NZ at the time.

I didn't intend my comments to be in bad taste. I did consider deleting my post after posting it. The bloody French mongrels got off lightly after their govt. freed them early. IIRC, the French Govt. used threats of economic sanctions against New Zealand to get their agents transferred from NZ to French soil.

I didn't take it in bad taste at all Ron. This is not an action that should be forgotten about or swept under the carpet in the name of polite society.

Just to clarify....I wouldn't say I'm a greenie (I do drive a petrol D3) but I'm not not one eitherr.

Apparently the Esperanza has an electric drive and a diesel drive. The electric is 80% more efficient than the diesel but only does 10 knots, where as the diesel does 18. It was this reason they said, that they bought the ship (an ex Russian navy ship) in 1998 (?) as they need the speed to chase the whalers. When not upsetting the japs they run the generator and limp along on the electric drive.
