G'day All, Nice looking unit, but different from my No5 in the hubs and the rear lights, & spare wheel carrier, mine (and lots of others) has lights which are let into the rear x member, maybe they changed the designs in some aspects to save money, it would be interesting to know what type of bearings are in the hubs, as most early No5's have 2 Land Rover Inner hub bearings as the wheel set, anyway nice purchase cheers Dennis
PS No spare wheel carrier on early types either..

Give us a close up of the sticker will ya...

If its one of ours I'll pull its service history for you so youve got a start point for it.

If you want a green sticker for it for authenticity reasons (say you were going to pull it behind someones series for ANZAC day let me know.

The RAAF 500kg tactical trailers were built under different contracts to the Army's "Trailer, 1/2 ton, 2wh, (Aust) No 5", and therefore differ in several respects. The wheel hubs are 1.5 or 2 ton Al-Ko hubs. Interesting to note the NATo socket hole on the back has been welded over, but the Duckbill tow point has not been cut off.

Lot 416 was RAAF No 230000, and when Blknight.aus showed us pics of this trailer some months ago, it still had it's Tailight and guard and still had it's RAAF number plate. I wonder what has become of the plate? Destroyed, souveniered?

    destroyed...

as part of the out insepction they stay on just incase we have to bring them back on line but when they are finally reciepted "out" as in just before they actually get put on the truck the plates are pulled and cut up. well thats how its supposed to happen any way.

The light was probabley nicked to get something else going as its not complient with ADR's for the trailer so it doesnt change the alleged value of the trailer for disposal

The Nato hole is welded over as part of a mod to remove the ability to daisy chain trailers on the road and the duckbill remains to facilitate rearwards recovery of the trailer (and the presuabley bogged 110 its attached to) IT also makes the wiring less prone to shorting and leaks and its one less thing to tech inspect. and its an excelent place to hook up a hootchie.

The RAAF ones have slightly different lighting configurations not getting the same blackout setup as the ARMY (RAAF + tactical night driving = yeah and satan will drive to work in a snow plough)
