    Can they buckle??

    Might be a silly question but will never know unless i ask.. I took my D2 in for a tyre rotation today, (im lazy) anyway, the guy at the shop tells me that 3 of my rims are "quite buckled"...

    Excuse my ignorance but i thought the alloys would break rather than buckle..

    Am i being spun a line here or is he fair dinkum??

    Car drives fine, no wobbling, no vibration.

    buckle no, warp yes but youd know it if you had one that was a dead give away would be the 3 tons of wheel weights on the rim to bring it to spec.

    Never heard of it happening, but it is possible - the alloy wheels are generally speaking a lot more rigid than steel ones (which is their advantage) and damage usually shows up as cracks or fractures. But the material they are made of is definitely malleable and will deform significantly before cracking, although they are usually less malleable than the steel used in wheels. The increased rigidity is because the material is thicker and varies in thickness as necessary.

    However, I would suspect that the buckling may in fact be a manufacturing problem - are they factory or aftermarket? And just how bad are they? You may have a very pernickety mechanic.

    Ask them to put them on the balancing machine and spin them up, you will soon see if they are buckled/warped soon enough, Regards Frank.
