With all the crap going on it is great to read these stories when it comes to our pets...both happy and sad.

I was a bit like that when I lost Benz last April, had him for 8 yrs through a divorce, seperation from my children, many house moves, it was absolutely devastating for all of us...but especially for me.

    Benz

I was of the same frame of mind, but then found out his "aunt' had a litter, and some months later we got Diesel.

Someone wasn't on our side and 9mths later at Xmas just passed, he died of respitory failure from a combo of snake and tick. We were all gutted as he was our first joint family pet ( we have mine, yours and our children ). I said to Sharlea, my partner/fiancee that I can't go through that again and let the breeder know. She said up to me, but the father of Diesel had a litter coming from another bitch. The kids said can't we go at least see them when they are born.....they were born on my daughters birthday....so off we went.......pic says it all

    Maximus....or Maxxi for short

    Now he's:

I still miss both Benz and Diesel, even getting misty now, their pics are adorn our fridge and their collars hang on a shepherd statue. In Max their spirits live on as their bloodlines are intertwined and am glad I changed my mind and let him into our lives as he is a beautfully natured dog and the kids adore him...............and of course myself ,

    Regards

    Stevo

The thing I miss more than anything else after leaving the UK is our 2 Golden Retrievers. One is 13 now (got her as a puppy) and the other (the daughter of the older one) is 7. They are both amazing dogs. The younger one is the brightest dog we have ever had. You can teach it to do anything in about 10 minutes. I really really miss them.

I keep thinking about getting another dog over here but so far have resisted.

    Sad now... :-(

Toni's dog washing business see's lots of these. there is a family at the moment packing up and moving to the states, i don't know what is happening to the dog, i hate to think. there was one irish bird a couple of years ago who's husband had died and she decided to move back to ireland, but she took both border collies with her. she had to "quarantine" them both with a foster family here for 6 months then they were sent over. even doing that would be hard enough.
after my first marriage went belly-up, we had two dogsand two cats, my dog came with me when i moved into mum and dad's, she stuck with me until she died of cancer about 3 months after Toni and I got hitched, (almost as if her work was done), the ex's dog went to the breeder, the youngest cat found a home because it was cute, but i had to take the other one to the vet (farm) as i couldn't take her and neither would the ex.
that was hard..and i don't even like cats!
damn you dullbird, i'm all sad now!

I found a brochure at my wife's office one day describing a service where people who are going on holidays are put in contact with people who have their own dogs and are happy to take in your dog while you are away. The pitch was that your dog got to have a holiday too as it would get to do something different, meet some other dogs in a dog-friendly environment and not just be locked up in a kennel. It wasn't really about the host family making money because from memory the costs were not much more than food for your dog. It was more of a co-op arrangement for people who love dogs and don't like kennels.

I don't have the brochure and don't know anything about them including what they are called so this is not a recommendation as such but looks like a good idea.

Perhaps there is a Perth equivalent. These are the WA equivalent to where my wife works so they might know. www.cawa.asn.au

Sorry for the hijack but it seemed appropriate.

That is precisely why our two kids are rescue dogs!

I don't think I could ever NOT rescue a dog from a shelter, and my Mum and Sister are the same. Between the three of us we have 5 rescue dogs and are constantly looking at the shelter sites.
