Recovery Gear - Second Hand Prices?

    gday

recently i have been lookin for some recovery gear for my defender just in case. been lookin around and today i went into a second hand shop, the bloke had an high lift jack. one of the 60 inch ones i think. as well as a snatch strap, tree protector and winch extension (all ARB ) . he had $400 on the lot and told me that his 'mate' apparently paid $900 for the lot.

i think he was tryin to rip me off seein as i know a 60 inch high lift is about $190 cant imagine second hand straps would be worth $70 bucks each

so i was just wondering wot would you offer the bloke as a fair price?

other wise im thinkin me an 2 other mates are goin to just go brand new and hope to get a group discount

    Thanks

    Jock

I wouldnt buy second hand straps the highlift maybe. If the tree protector was just one that you wrap around a tree then wrap your strap around that it might be worth having as well.

    Tell him he's dreaming.
$70 for a second hand strap!

You can buy a snatch new for that if you don't want ARB on it.
If he wanted $5 for each strap I might risk having them but I would want more than one of each in case.

    Hi Jock,

If it were myself, i wouldnt bother with 2nd hand hand straps, as the previous gents have expressed. I would go the new ones & try for group discount.
Better to pay the right money (which is basically what he is asking anyway) for new equip. Rather than risk it for a possible saving of a few dollars.

I would avoid second hand recovery equipment like the plague!!!
Even the high lift unless it is in excellent condition and I'd still be wary.
Snatch straps have I believe a limited number of recoveries in them and you don't know how much use they've had.
Recovery gear is either well looked after or that junk that gets tossed in and abused. Buy new.

thanks for your comments fellas. i decided not to get them lookin at somethin more like this
Britpart - The Quality Parts for Land Rovers - Accessories Catalogue
it works out at roughly $160 for the basic kit but seein as i got a winch that came with the defender when i bought it, im thinkin i might go the advanced instead. just gotta see how much it costs

Check supercheap out. They do a recovery kit for about $250. For $500 you could get a new Jack and recovery kit.
