    age is an important factor on all aircrfat maintenace ois carried out according to cycles (pressuristion) landing cycles hours flowna nd calender time.
    fuselages have a time life like under carrage, ie a point in time or cycles were it can not exceed, unlike other items such as idg which are on condition, ie they break they get replaced

    and for those interesetd there is an in between called condition monitoring which studeis the condition and removes the item befroe total failure as this would be cheaper to over haul eg tyres engines

    its not uncommon for mask not to drop or even slides to inflate, unless of course you dont want them too.

    There was a quickly gagged report that this was conducted by "a United States of America agency" and that both Australian agencies and Qantas were denied access to the plane during the process. ( a delay of some 12 hours. )

    The aircraft was quarantined until Australian investigators arrived as required under international aviation agreements. I have seen no suggestions that Australian investigators were not allowed access as soon as they arrived. Quite properly, Qantas staff, Boeing staff etc as well as FAA would not have been allowed access prior to this. I would be quite surprised if the Phillippines did not follow the letter of the agreements (now if it had been a PIA flight.....)
