    Converted to Diesel/Gas

Had the Defender converted to diesel/Gas a couple of days ago.

I haven't done any economy figures yet. but definetely a vast improvement in power and driveability. Anybody that owns a TD5 will know that below 1800rpm the vehicle has nothing. I can now get down to 20pkh in 4th gear and slowly accelerate away again. It is also accelerating up hills in 5th that I had to do in 4th before.
I got the Eco-shot system. It injects the gas into the intake pre turbo.
Had it fitted at 4WD connections in Eltham Victoria.
28 Usable litre gas cylinder under drivers floor.should do 120 - 140 litres of diesel.

Will be taking it and the Camper for a cruise across the Nullabor in approx 3 months, should be much better tow vehicle than ever before.

    Hi Mate;

Not sure what year model your Deefer is , Just out of interest , wouldn't it have been cheaper to flash the ECU, ie with different set of mapping points ( if flashable ) and upgrade your Intercooler , that would have given you a substantial improvement in power for towing,,

also , are you able to post up a Dyno figure of the Before/after read-outs ?

Mine is a 99 model. It has already been chipped, it came that way.
The conversion after the rebate is $2000. I haven't driven one with an upgraded intercooler, That might be the next thing!!.

    I think I/C's are are $1200+

The theory behind diesel/gas is more power, better economy ( yet to be proved by me, the economy that is ).

I am now carrying 150 litres of fuel. better for long trips.

Didn't get it dyno'd, but what I did notice going up a hill I switched off the gas and felt a definite drop in power.

I was told, bring it back after 2000 k's when all the cr#p is out of the motor and the gas can be tweeked up a bit more.

I have enjoyed showing a few Tojo's a clean pair of heals.
I picked a mate from work this morning, he has a 3.0 litre patrol.
He admittrd that it was a totally different vehicle.

It was the other half that said I should convert it, who am I to argue.
I think the intercooler is just a pipe dream, unless the present one cracks.

Welcome to the diesel-gas world. I have a 93 Discovery 200 Tdi running on 100% bio diesel from Thomastown at $1.45 a litre and lpg. Runs great, power is up and economical, what's not to love ! You have a bigger gas tank than me, only 15 litres.

Been running it for months now with no issues. Very happy chappy
