completely over it

I've finally accepted my land rover leaks. Now I just keep topping it up. Heaps cheaper than replacing seals or worse paying someone to do it. I decided this after I spat the dummy after my last service. Numerous hoses "had" to be replaced and oil leaks everywhere... I paid the mechanic just under $1k to clean up the mess from the oil leaks so they could be inspected and replace some hoses that I am quite capable of doing myself. Now with the low value of discos its pointless paying up to an 1/8th of the price of the vehicle to get someone else to service it. I do quite enjoy getting under the car but. Heaps different to what I do during the day :D

I own a 2000' V8 disco, it must be the only landy around that never leaks a drop of oil, my drive is pristine....
or it was! The disco is away having a new head, the garage lent me there shed so I can still get around (1998 daewoo thingy) now I'm accumulating oil spots all over my drive!!

My driveway is clean except for where I have spilled it. No matter how bad my leaks are the most I've had is the odd drop. The rest just gets spread around the undercarriage.
Except for when the power steering hose clamps needed tightening. That left a bit of a mess :angel: Even still most of it got blown around the engine bay by the fan.

mmm, I am not any where near over mine... but I guess it different in that I am doing the work myself as well. I made the choice to do it myself because it would have cost me about 6k for someone to do it.

I'm still trying to work out how to spend 27grand on my disco and fender.Two new motors $9000,gearbox's $5000 only $13000 to go. Pat

It is easy to spend big even when doing the work yourself.
If I include tools then I have spent about $10,000 on mine doing repaires. But I have now rebuilt the engine and gearbo so lets hope thats it.

I'm starting to get interested in why people are having so many problems. Pat

Most of the leaks you could have fixed yourself cheaply.
Most cars especially 4x4s end up with leaks sooner or later. If they are not bad leaks why bother fixing them unless you need to. The rear main is a pain to change as is time consuming but not expensive if you can do it yourself.
We have had 2 x Commodores and a Statesman plu s parents Commodore and Statesman and they have never leaked any fluids at all.

That's a shame Joel - we all (want) need reliability, particularly if it's also a work vehicle and you don't have the time to play silly buggers with it. Good luck with the Holden.

The leaks were very serious, I couldn't have left them. Six different places from the engine compartment about 10cm in diameter overnight. The rear main is currently leaking about the size of a CD overnight:(
