Tordon is about the best. The other thing that works well is brake fluid (not DOT4 though) poured in to a hole in the tree.

The stumps will rot real quick, if you dont mind a low stump for a couple of years. just cut as low as you can, poison as the above threads, then nature will rot them, easy way out

    Wayne,
willows of all description will sucker readily .
If the only prob is its shooting from the stumps , then its not 2 bad.
If you`re gunna get them 2 ground it out dont worry about messing around poisoning them, just get them done fairly quickly.
If u want 2 poison them u`ll need 2 run the chainsaw around the perimeter of the trunk just in from the bark. This is (the cambium layer) where the nutrients r transported up & down the tree. It will have a far greater effect than in the middle of the stump (the heartwood). Be carefull of kickback because u`ll need 2 do this with the tip of the saw. Pour in the Roundup then your off 2 a good start.
If you want 2 go green just keep breaking the shoots off and the tree will eventually give up as it cant photosynthesise and produce its own food.
Being a willow unfortunately this could take a loooong time.
If its not just the stump & your having trouble with suckers u`ll proly have 2 spray. I have some 24d but if I let u use that they`ll lock us both away.
    Cheers Dean.

Thanks all for your very helpful replies.
I did actually paint a few with RoundUp after cutting them down - I don't have much faith that will work.
I bought some Tree and Blackberry Killer last night. It says to mix it with diesel and apply it so I will try it.
With all the suggestions made, those willows don't stand a chance !

It sounds like persistence might also be necessary.
We took out a big liquidamber a few years ago, stump ground out, etc, and after that it took 2+ years of poisoning before it finally stopped sending up shoots. We know it's given up now, as in now sprouts fungi whenever it's been damp for a while!
