Wright Offroad Acoustic Mat System in Australia

Hey all! Am looking at the options for soundproofing (well, sound-reducing) my Defender and so far the one that looks the best is the Acoustic Mat System from Wright Offroad in the UK - Wright Off-Road

Just wondering if any of you know if there's a distributor in Australia - or if there's a local product for Land Rovers that's similar.

    Thanks in advance!

Well, the guy building my Jeep up was showing me some stuff a previous owner had put under the carpet/vinyl in his daughter's car. Can't remember the name of it but can find out if you want.
A bit like the stuff I used to find under the carpet of my old Triumphs - silver backed black stuff that adheres to the floor pan. In those days it was like a bituminous goo, but probably something more environmentally friendly now...
Obviously wouldn't be a custom fit - but available here. Not sure of the cost though.
    Cheers

When I bought my Defender (see signature below) and became the second owner it had been kitted out by the first and was fully carpeted.

In the front footwells there were rubber/foam backed mats covered by the said carpet. ALL carpet pieces in the vehicle were trimmed and had edging sewn on - very well done. On top of the carpet were LR floormats. The transmission hump was covered with an underlay of some description (approx 10-12mm thick) and then the carpet.

Rear footwells were the same as the front - rubber backed mats, carpet and then the LR mats.

Underneath the second row of seats as well as the back/rear of the vehicle (behind the second row of seats) was the same as the transmission hump. Underlay and then carpet. This included the side 'steps' in the rear of the vehicle.

It was exceptionally well done but as I did not ever drive it without the soundproofing I am not sure how much it improved it. That said, I probably wouldn't have noticed anyway as one of the rear windows rattled even driving on concrete carparks. People would ask about it and I would say - Beacuse it's a Defender

The Wrightoffroad stuff looks the goods and would be able to be done by you so unless you are able to find someone locally to do something then I would say go with that. Either way it will be a cost.

Have you seen this thread though?

    sound insulation for Defender

I have gone throug this last year. I have posted under "Sound inslulation for a Defender" It does make a big difference in noise, and heat transmission. Well worth the effort.
    Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I had read the "Soundproofing a Defender" thread before - some good info in it. I was thinking about getting a noisekiller kit Noisekiller UK - Sound Proofing Land Rover but after spending a few days pulling out the firewall dash, floor and transmission covers, and trying to waterproof it all...I'm not convinced that I can get it watertight, so am thinking this matting system would be best as it's removable - plus I can spray lanolin under the mat to reduce the chance of rust.

Anyway, I'm going to make a couple of calls and see what I can find...will let you know what I find out.

Thought I'd update this incase anyone else is interested...

Sent them an email and got a helpful reply - the matting is 32kg so shipping is a big expense...looking at around £400GBP - close to $800 landed in AUS. Kinda expensive, but it's one of the neatest solutions I've seen.

Thanks SC, someone on here mentioned quite a while back they had bought the Wright mat system ands I asked what their costs to import were and they never replied.

I agree, it appears to be the neatest solution, particularly for commercial use I've seen.

rick they never replied because they had to "cash Convert" their computer to pay for the stuff !

i'M CURRENTLY on the look out for a good but not too expensive option for heat reduction and sound deadening.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
