    Pickling of 316 Stainless Steel

Thought the brains trust may have some clues.

Have welded up some 316 stainless (stick with SS rods) but now need to pickle the welds. I prob should have asked at my friendly welding store but cant get to him for a little whiles. Any clues on best way to pickle half a dozen welds. Have heard about pickling paste????

The finished product will be in a harsh environment (marine) so figure it will pay to sort out the corrosion issue early.

pickeling paste is your best option tho for what you need done wouldent justify a full bottle unless you can get small ones ive only used 1KG bottles and the stuff isnt cheap id go to a fab shop who do stainless work and ask if they could pickel it for you or buy a tub from your local welding suplyer that way you will have it on hand for more clean up jobs ...
Another option is to have the welded area bead blasted as it works just as good and is quicker and safer than playing with acid ...

Or if the area of the weld permits use a flapper disc on a grinder the ones that look like bits of sand paper all the way around the disc.
