    Would you still fly Qantas?

    Hi all,

The wife and i are heading off to the UK/Europe in a few weeks. Flights are booked with Qantas . My wife is a nervous flyer (her favourite show is Air Crash Investigations ), and doesn't really want to fly with them after all their "incidents" lately. It's her first International flight.

Just wanted to get an idea of everyone else's opinion... Would you avoid them now, not concerned about it, take no notice of "hype"?

Interested in hearing from anyone currently booked to fly Qantas International soon...

Also, i'm being told "all airlines have these problems, it's just that Qantas is in the spotlight ATM...". Is this actually true (ie. do other airlines have planes grounded pending CASA investigations on a weekly basis?

    Any (polite) opinion welcomed.

If I had a choice, I'd go Qantas
It least you know that is being flown by a professional Pilot, who knows what to do in an emergency.
That on it's own is a relief and I do know a couple of Qantas 747 pilots. I'd trust them any day. Tell your wife to enjoy the flight as she is in the hands of the best Pilots in the world.

listen mate qantas have had a small scare........and all there other incidents are incidents that any other airline would encounter

alot of it i believe has been blown out of poportion due to people coming in and looking at the saftey things with in maintenance......whether this is becasue some people are trying to prove that there cost cutting (laying off heaps of mechanics) has hindered there overal work standard or what i'm not sure

but personally the fact that qantas have never had a plane fall out of the sky and with the other small incident the other day everyone i.e the media are jumping on every little thing that goea wrong with the planes

i would have no quarms flying qantas personally.....these planes are maintanined to a strict safety standard, what ever would be unfortunate to happen to you on a qantas flight can just as easily happen to you on emirates, etihad, virgin or any other commercial airliner IMHO
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Aeroplanes are mechanical things made and serviced by man (sic).

Anything mechanical can break despite all diligence by those who maintain it.

All airlines have to maintain cost comeditivness.

Qantas' safety systems are among the best in the world compared with many industries and in particular against other airlines. Their safety systems are based on systems designed, (and supported,) by Du Pont Corporation, the acknowledged leader in safety systems world wide.

Qantas can be compared favourably against the best airlines in the world.

No one can guarantee any more than than.

I'm flying with Qantas in a few weeks and don't have a problem at all. I think the media are out to get Qantas, its getting to the stage that tomorrow's front page will be a story about a Qantas pilot who sneezed and did not say excuse me!

As a "nervous flyer" myself Id still fly them. I use them regularly but not exclusively, use BA, Singapore, etc. This has got to the point where they run out of paperclips and it gets on today-tonight or some DS from a disgrunted employee advocate group wants preselection for a well known major party grandstands an issue under the "safety" banner. while Im on my box as a safety professional that gets my goat using industrial sabotage and political gain under the safety banner but I digress.
enjoy the flight and remember when the wings flap its designed that way

Yep, those so called reporters should be shoved in a cheap asian airline flight where there are no seats, no seat belts, every one sits on the floor!

    Been there done that!
