Thread: series rear door bracket- what is it for?

If you are referring to the hole in the diagonal brace, is that not the anchor point for the stay that is on each corner. My series 2 originally had two of these stays, but when I got it only one.

I fitted a gas strut and it does all the work now.

they hold the support bars that keep the top part of the door open, on the body work there should be 2 fittings with large threaded knobs on them.

open the door, swing down the bar and secure it in place under the knob....

AND DONT TRUST THE BASTARDS!!!!!!
My first landy was a 88",was beach fishing,hooked into a school of tailor.Put the rods in the back to chase the school up the beach,the door dropped snapping the 2 rods.

thanks for the answers, as this is a one piece door which appears to be a bodge up, the fittings made no sense to me. do these stays attack to brackets on the rear wall of the roof?

That rear door is, as you say, a bodge up. It was originally a drop down tailgate and a lift up section hinged with curved hinges on the inside of the roof rear panel lower edge. I seem to remember that the later liftup doors had props that pivoted on these fittings and went into sockets near where the bolts go. The earlier ones like mine had the setup Dave described.

(Except for station wagons the side hinged soors were virtually unheard of in Australia on Series 2/2a)
