    Cleaning lasers

    Hi people.
Any tips on cleaning lasers on multi-stacker CD players?????
The house stereo sounds shocking, the D2 seems to skip much easier even when stationary.

Hi Andrew, I have one of those cleaning disc's with little brushes on it. If you want to give it a go just pm me your address and I'll post it to you.

This is how we used to do it professionally.

    Get one ear cleaner bud
Breath heavily on the end of it
Very gently wipe the surface of the laser focussing thingo.

    Your done.

If that doesn't fix it then you need a new laser. Easy to replace but not cheap to buy.

yep - the actual laser will be behind a system of lens. But be careful - the lens may have an anti-reflection coating which maybe susceptible to solvents. A good quality isopropyl alcohol should do the trick.

How 'not cheap' are they? We have a Yamaha CD player that is now totally useless it skips so much. I've tried cleaning it many times.
Is it economical to replace the laser when compared to buying a new unit?
