    300Tdi Glow Plug Wiring Smoking

Interesting morning the other day... Engine had been running for around 40mins when I turned it off. Went to restart about 30 or so minutes later and smoke pours out from under bonnet....

Hmm lift and look. The wire running between the glow plugs has obviously got very hot!

Luckily all works fine still so was able to start and move on.

Is it possible one of the glow plugs has shorted and died? I have removed them and they look fine, but there is no obvious other spot for a short, nothing moving in to contact with it etc, not touching anything, next job will be to test the resistence on all the glow plugs but if nothing there not sure where to look next?

    Any ideas???

    Thanks

Yeah the only damage, that I can see is the wiring between the glow plugs. No damage to the wire between the glow plugs and relay and the relay seems fine! will post some pics when i take them!

Apart from the smoke all is well. It hasn't done it since (I started it to drive it home!)

TBH, as it's a 300TDi, you might as well disconnect the glow plugs completely and forget them. Even in the British climate, the 300TDi is happy starting without the use of glow plugs.

    Thats a cracker Ron ROFLMAO

I would say that a glow plug has shorted out, I have had it before on machines and it just normally burns the rubber on the joining bar but I have had it burn the wire from the relay before.

Id be inclined to pull the fuse until you fix it propper to make sure it doesnt start a fire.

    Damn electrics......
