yes i agree a permit would be a good idea, only problem with that is they will then start charging a fee......you know for all the hard paper pushing it requires![]()
just heard on news that they are going to shut the simpson down between dec and march as it is deemed to dangerous, one reason was that people dont take enough water. Seems like a rule for the idiots but will affect every body. By all accounts not a place to be in summer but surely if you prepare correctly and like the heat you should be allowed to travel (maybe a permit for them periods)
cheers

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
That'd be right!
They allow people to jump out of perfectly good aeroplanes but want to stop people driving across the land.
Who's got their priorities wrong again? And Where did you hear that, official sources or rumour?
Yes but then they would be able to use the funds created by the permits to seal the road so that even the people with the Winnebago's could also cross the Desert!

skynews about 10.30 tonight, also had some parks guy from SA talking about it too, so who knows, can never be sure with the media. How often do we hear a rumour like that only to find out later that its far worse than we first heard because of under table deals with greens etc and too late to do any thing
cheers

In the 1960s I worked in the Simpson for twelve months of the year, and we did not have airconditioning or any of the specialised equipment most people have today. Certainly it gets hot, but the danger is only greater for those who ignore common sense.
I can see no reason for the ban, other than to reduce costs of retrieving the bodies, and I haven't heard that this is a significant cost. Just another case of unnecessarily protecting people from themselves to try and stop the action of natural selection. And as NM says - it won't work. Even if they put locked gates at each end, you can always either drive round them or break the gate. After all everyone going across will be set up for cross country driving!

$80, we paid $95 in 2005 for a parks pass, have they dropped the price
Personnally i think it's a good idea, they restrict access the the high country to prserve the tracks being damaged, no difference really.
You still have access too it, just not in the hottest part of the year, why you would want too go there in summer is beyond me anyway.

Of course they will bulldoze the dunes, then they will put picnic spots with enviro toilets every 20 Km and at all the "points of Interest". Like "Big Red" This is the location where in the pre-management days four wheel drive bush bashers would have competitions to see who could get up the quickest. On many occasions these environmental terrorists would be unhappy with their time so would go back down the dune to try for a better time. Since the development of the tourist road these activities have been banned and the park is now being allowed to return to it's former wilderness state. Over on your right you can see.....
Who is interested in the truth when a lie suits your political needs better!
