Thread: When will you upgrade to a D3?

Just think, longrange tank, lockers, bullbar, winch, snorkle, rear tyre carrier with 2 spares and a Hayman reece tow bar. I recon it would make any Toyota look like s*h*i*t. I think even a few Toyota owners would even seriously think of changing over

Playing at Stockton Beach the D3 with factory tyres were unstopable

After reading the thread about servicing costs, then factoring in depreciation etc I have come to the conclusion you must be one hell of a rich bastard to own one. There is more to life than having the shineyest wheels .

It cant be as expensive as owning a D2 TD5 for service and repairs , the constant cost of repairs to our D2 is getting me down big time, iam seriously considering the Toymota Wagon as a replacement

Ditto, 100% agree. Next one will be a defender. I like the old D1 cause I can play with it without worrying about electronics. This from an old 30+ years experience electronics engineer.

Well maybe not 30 years as the last 15-20 have been mainly driving a desk. Still know my way around a DVM and oscilloscope though.

Nothing wrong with the D3, it's a nice looking vehicle just not for me.

Despite being a current D2 and ex D1 and RRC owner, I find some of the anti-D3 sentiment on this thread amusing - and surprisingly ill-informed compared to most threads on this forum. The D3 has been around for a few years now and is definitely proving to be more reliable than D2s at the same stage - not to mention the huge number of recalls the D2s had (I'm glad the previous owner of mine sorted all that nonsense out)! As for off-road ability, despite it's softer looks, a standard D3 eats a standard D2 or D1 for breakfast offroad...

I had a long look at the D3 but I just can't justify the cost versus what I do in my D1. Even though mine is getting on and costs to keep running, the amount of gizmos and plastic in the D3 just scares me. I still have red mud coming out of bits from my last north trip (late 2006)! I don't want to know what'll happen when that sort of stuff combines with electronics.

Although I seriously have the Landy madness - I want to do an early 2-door rangie with a diesel engine as my next ride...

Every single new vehicle on the market is full of electronics and plastic's, some of the comments are amusing as i bet they have never thought twice about buying a newish dunnydoor or fowlcan, the D2 TD5 would worry me to own one but i wouldnt think twice about a D3- now if someone will just lend me 65k .
