Scott's superannuation system! Scott, you need split-screen VW Kombis.

Is there an option to fly over on one of the cheapy airlines and rent a flatbed. That way you could bring it back over yourself on the back of a rental truck.

Scott, don't forget that the best way to ensure this rare vehicle arrives in one piece and not with a forklift tyne rammed through the drivers door, is to go and get it yourself. Think of it as a holiday!

I know the car (I haven't watched the auction episeode yet though) & it's not supposed to be the original Mother & Son car. There were at least 2 used in the series. The owner of the one used in the 1st series wouldn't let the ABC use it for the 2nd series. The ABC bought another car & made it look like the first. It was this 2nd car that was auctioned (it sat in the ABC HQ foyer for a few years). Even so, 16K is around twice it's real value.

Yep, I could be in that.

Actually, funny you should pop up in this thread.
If all else failed, I was going to buy a nice cheap Tdi D1 & do the pick up myself. Don't know of any, do you?

    It has crossed my mind.
Leslie has been asked to use some annual leave & I still have 6 weeks up my sleeve.

I'll see how the auction goes - it's getting pretty close to my $$ limit already (it's at $20, yes $20).

Well, you have the car trailer. Transport some stuff over and come back with the Morrie!

Cheap Tdi? Hmm, I could be interested in selling mine below the advertised price.

Actually, if I could sell the Disco in Perth, I'd take it over on the Indian Pacific, drive it around during our holiday, then leave it there. (Or I could take a car over for someone - it will only cost me about $200 to take it on the train).

    Freight from Perth going east

There are cheap options for getting goods back from WA but the old story about getting what you pay for comes to play. The large companies will have set rates and usually won't budge on price, with containers on rail the cost of returning the m/t's to the east coast is factored into the rates for going over and it's not worth stuffing around with small jobs. Your best option is to look for a small operator or owner driver for it will make a difference to their bottom line to do small jobs. Just have some-one in the know to make sure it's prepared to travell and loaded correctly.
    Peter

PS I don't run to Perth but two of the drivers I work with have spent the last 10 yrs running the paddock and might be able to give you a lead to someone who will look after your needs.
