Thread: Bid on this to contribute to AULRO

This is my one-thousandth post on this forum. It's taken about five years, so not exactly a blistering rate of contributions, but I've never made it to a four-digit post count on any other forum despite using the 'Net since 1994.

In the years since I've been following this, well -- forum seems the wrong word, community is more appropriate -- about the only change has been size. Sure, 'faces' come and go, but all the while the discussion reflects that Land Rover ethos of friendly give and take, knowledge sharing and humour.

It reminds me of when I phoned a Land Rover owner some time ago to arrange a photoshoot for his vehicle. His place was a few hundred km from mine, and he asked where I'd be staying. I said I hadn't decided yet, and he immediately offered his home to my family.

Later, I remarked on this generosity to a strange. He replied that he'd "never met a Land Rover person I haven't liked". And I think that, mostly, sums up this forum.

I'd also like to thank Inc for the forum. I know well what effort goes into creating and maintaining one of these sites, as I've done it myself on occasion. For those of you that don't know, imagine it's a lot, and then double it.

To that end I'd like to make another contribution to the costs, and I thought I'd auction this print:



I will post an A3 sized, framed print of the image above to the winner's Australian address.

Rules

1. Post a reply here with the text "My bid for the G4 Print is $xxxxxx" as the first line of your reply. That's a formal bid you'll need to back up with cash. You can add other text below that line.

2. I will cover printing, framing and postage costs to any Australian address.

3. Winner is whoever has bid the most after one week, precisely, from the date of this post.

4. Money will be paid direct to Inc's nominated Aulro account, not mine. When I'm told the funds have arrived I'll send the image.

5. Questions here please, preferably not PM.

6. The image is 4500x2800 pixels so should print nicely at A3, and it'll be professionally done, not on some home printer.

7. I am not aware of any other image that shows a group shot of this nature. Put it this way, the chances of anyone else owning a print remotely like it are pretty small. Not many people will have had the chance to shoot these cars, and I arranged the main shot specially one evening just before dusk. Took a while as I used a long lens and had to run up and down a hill to move the vehicles to the desired position, then check and re-move.

8. Only one winner. Unless the second place bidder can rent a Tardis, they're out of luck.

9. I'll change the text a little as required, but the overall design stays the same.

10. Reserve price is at least double what it'll cost me to get the print to you, so the buyer makes at least the same contribution I do. If no bids reach that figure, no deal. Not sure what that cost is yet.

11. I might think of some more rules or change these!
