Huge tree squashes parked car




A DRIVER had a lucky escape after a 15 m tall gum tree narrowly missed his car and destroyed a 4WD in Newport on the weekend Northern Beaches police were called to Wallumatta Rd about 12.15pm on Saturday after strong winds brought the tree crashing down.

The gum tree smashed the front end of the covered Land Rover, squashing the bonnet and engine, destroying the windscreen and blowing out the tyres. It blocked the roadway before Pittwater Council staff cut the tree up with a chainsaw and cleared the area. Police said no one was in the car at the time.
