Im guessing, but I suspect its a simple case of plug it into the dealer tool and change a setting.
Not that easy though if your a good few hours from a dealer!
Hello all... I have purchase a 2008 Defender90 and am having a problem in tracking down info on how to convert the reading from Miles to Kms... No one from Landrover UK seems to know... Any help would be appreciated... In addition, I know its capable as the Kms is slightly visible in the LCD panel

Thanks for that..I have not had the best luck with this new car from the day I bought it...As we speak its at JV Like Landrover getting a new CD Player, a new door and some work done on the front right hand brake assembly... I think for all of this they could do me a favor and fiddle with the speedo setting..Will mention your idea to them... Thanks again

The best person to talk to is probably Pete from Bell Autos

Pete is the main man when it comes to Land Rover ECUs. Thats for sure.
He and I work very closely together on a few things. He's just round the corner from us.
I have checked this morning and you will need a new instrument cluster. Once you have one, it will need taking to a main dealer to have it programmed to the car. No longer is the speedo unit, just a speedo like on the TD5 and before. It now contains a whole host of other essential ecu related data so any change, must be programmed to the ecu... otherwise you aint going anywhere!!

I find this difficult to understand...How will the original miles be recorder on the new instrument panel... I can just see off to the left of the miles indicator an led that could light up the KMs which leads me to think that a cluster is a cluster and that there must be a way to convert to kms rather than replace the whole cluster...
Have finally picked up my 90 and its running as a new car should... Superbly
They (Landrover ) cannot help me as they have said it contravenes landrover sales export principles... By this I understand that its something that Landrover Australia will charge the earth for just to make the adjustment... I can live with that providing there are not a bunch of other things I have to change
Thanks for all you input... Its been educational

Stu, did you import it yourself or buy it from a dealer?
If from a dealer, why wasn't it picked up earlier or did it change over from km to miles one day?
If you bought it from LR then it's their problem. I'm sure that it would be covered under the Trade Practices Act - fit for purpose, etc.
Despite what LR say, things get wrongly fitted on the production line.
My '86 Rangie was fitted with LHD headlights. The previous owner told me how he fitted extra lighting to help improve the lights.
I found the lights were LHD when I was modifying the mounts to fit a later model grille. What amazed me was that no one had noticed when he had work done - including headlight alignment.
I don't have a parts book for the new Defender so it's hard to see what part no. differences there are. On the P38A, some changes can be made by the owner, e.g., change from deg C to deg F on the display. I was hoping that there may be a similar software change for you.
Does anyone have a version of MicroCat later than 2005. Scouse will......
