    Cape York

Barbara and I are now back in Cairns after our little trip up to the Tip. The 110 is now getting some TLC at the capable hands of Colin at Hypertuned

The low point of the trip? Well to put it bluntly and with my whinging pom hat on is the disgusting condition of the vast majourity of bush camp sites. A large proportion of the Aussie 4 x 4 community obviously have no respect for their environment! Harsh words? Some of the bush camp sites were literally **** holes!

Yep bags of excrement hanging from a tree at Dulhuntey campsite. What morons!

    Whinging pom hat off now

The only decent bush campsite we found was at Birdie Creek.

A lovely camp site is at Mary Valley and is well worth the 5km detour off the road. Camp close to a waterhole with fresh watercrocs in, king fisher etc and a dusk flight of flying foxes

The Old Telegraph Track was straightforward enough during the dry season although it seems everyone who owns a 4 x 4 in Australia goes and does the track. If it was wet it would be a different story. At the top end we come across a group of 40, yes 40 vehicles doing a tag along tour!

    A few photos

It is always a good feeling to help someone out especially when they drive Jap crap

Yep we got the 110 as far north as it is practical on the Aussie mainland

    and had some decent sunsets

We had a good look at the Jardine crossing

    The exit looks so easy

    but we resisted the temptation

To be honest found the Frenchman Line and the Creb track more interesting and the Creb was more challenging with uphill climbs like 'brick house ends'

I would not like to drive the Creb after reasonable rainfall and reckon the sign is correct

Barbara starts her journey home soon and I start heading west across the top of Australia

    Regards

    Brendan

Glad to see your enjoying your trip mate. Yep there are quite a few people who have no respect for the land we have and abuse it. The sader part being that the people who do the right thing end up paying for few who don't.

I wished we could have caugh up when you passed through Wagga Wagga, if you came via Albury over the rail overpass you would have passed within a few hundred metres of our place, but I was over in your lovely green country for nearly 4 months working in Winchester. I did catch up with camellandy (dunno if you know him at all) and he took me around Gayton and the test tracks.

However glad to see you having fun, Easo

Good to see your enjoying your adventure and yes the conditions of the campsite are not good, according too a mate who has just returned, he echoed your statements.

There were 2 cars that attempted the Jardine while he was there, a 78 series cruiser and a 100 series, the 78 made it, the 100 didn't.

Great photos too by the way, that sunset is brilliant.

    Leeds,

Looks like your having a good trip....

The rubbish seems worse than it did when we were up there. Maybe its because its later in the season?

If only we had been at the Jardine crossing at the same time...... I was so tempted also

    Great pics Leeds,
Did you get to Roaring Meg on the Creb? It's a good run. (For anyone else heading therer it is good to advise the traditional owner Peter, I have his details if you are going, PM me for info).

The frenchman line was fairly washed out on my last trip but interesting all the same.

I guess you are looking forward to some open country now, watch the shaley roads for puncktures. Your muddies should handle that Ok.

    Regards,

Great pics and glad you've made it to FNQ. NT is a lot different and the weather is starting to turn towards the wet season build up

I can only agree with you Leeds about the state of camp sites in Australia. You're not whinging, just helping voice the concerns of many others.
