Snatch strap, extension strap, shackles and tree protector to use as a bridle are always under the seat.
Handwinch I generally only take if going away by myself - Hi Lift I don't take anymore unless needed it's needed for fixing Huts - but I must admit I get a lot of use out of those items around home.![]()
Depends if I'm heading out for a hard trip or a not so hard trip but for the latter, the below is always in my car (not a daily driver);
6 x 4.75T bow shackles
2 x snatch straps
1 x tree protector
1 x equaliser strap
1 x winch extension strap
power winch
1 x cable dampner
2 snatch blocks
1 x tyre repair kit
4 x ratchet straps
1 x tool box with various size cable ties, hose clamps, sockets, sprays, 100 mph tape, hack saw etc etc
If heading out on a harder trip I take all of the above but throw in;
high lift jack
Drag chain
shovel
spare tail shaft
length of fence wire
Bull bag
common sense
Pretty much the same here,
Choices from
Vehicle mounted winch
Snatch block
Various shackles
Snatch strap(s)
Tree trunk protector
Winch extension strap
equaliser strap
Drag chain
Hand winch
Hi-lift
tyre repair kit - tubes, plugs, beadbreaker levers etc.
Shovel
Axe
bush saw
Chainsaw
Gloves
On board compressor
plus various other bits of rope, ratchet straps etc
Rarely though do I carry it all, on a big trip the recovery gear is spread across a number of vehicles.

1x front mount M8000 electric winch

2x winch rope pulleys
1x mounted electric air compressor for tyres and locker
1x tyre repair kit (just the hole plugs with associated tools)
1x shovel if we are going somewhere with sand
I leave the hilift jack at home as there is nowhere to put it now I have a Discovery.
I also take along the rest of the 4wd club with me. They are the best recovery gear available.
Of all that gear I've used it all to recover either myself or someone else except the tyre repair kit, winch pulleys, bridle and the extension strap. Nice to know its available though.
When you are out with the club there isn't much a snatch and another vehicle or two won't get you out of. That of course comes after the club members try and talk you out of a spot which is always the first option and works very well.
