    Drip Tray

I've just had a nice new shed built with a nice new concrete floor. Both my vehicles drip oil, the Disco only from the t/c but the old Peugeot from every orifice. I have a couple of large bits of unpainted MDF from a demolished room and was thinking of using these as full-length drip trays, painting the underside so that the oil would soak into the material but not through to the floor.

Does anyone know if this would work, or should I be looking at something completely impermeable, such as metal or plastic?

Once you kick over the oil drain pan the first time it all becomes irrelevant anyway

What about laying plastic under the car and then carpet on top of the plastic. The carpet will soak up the oil so it won't run away and the plastic will stop it soaking through.

That's not a bad idea as I have some old carpet. So far (touch wood) I haven't kicked over an oil drain pan.

You are wasting your time putting carpet or anything else down. I've been there done that many times. The only real answer is to paint the floor. I will be doing that to mine after I get rid of my daughter's furniture and my son's effects out of my garage!

Now you mention paint, my grandparents had a sealer painted on their garage floor. It has been there for nearly 20 years and oil just wipes off. It has a grey/cream speckled appearance. Still looks good as new.
