    Allergies...who else suffers?

    G'day All,

Don't know about others, but with the change in the weather, rain and then sun....has sent me off in an allergy meltdown. For me it is eyes...like sand in them....ears...itchy and sneezing. I made the mistake of taking a Polarimine this morning, so kids have had a doughy Dad all day. Even a Red Bull couldnt pick me up. Anyone else suffer from them....any tips. Eyes are watering like mad whilst trying to type, kids keep calling me a cry baby ,

    Regards

    Stevo

    who else suffers ... everybody!

My guess is that there would be few people who wouldn't show an allergic or intolerant reaction to some of the countless natural or man-made chemicals we encounter in food, our clothing, or other normally encountered materials.

That said, there are some very effective allergy clinics attached to capital city teaching hospitals that identify what an individual needs to avoid.

There are over-the-counter medicines from chemist shops that can give substantial relief in some cases (I'm thinking zyrtek for example).

    X2,

Who would want to put MORE chemicals into yourself in an attempt to 'rebalance' the chemical ridden, out of balance system??

Herbal stuff is well underrated, just make sure you get advice from a real herbalist and not some 'alternative market' booth salesperson. Some know, some don't.

    Hi Stevo,
I'm luck I only get a short burts at the begining of summer - some tree pollen does it for me.

Try Fess - a saline solution that you can squert up your nose. It will take a day or 2 to work but unlike the chemical ones you can use it all summer and as often as you need to.

Get an expencive vaccume cleaner one with a HEP filter to take out pollen and dust mites, and start using it daily, especialy in your bedroom.

If your realy bad get a home air purifier (~$450 from Harvey Norman again with a HEP filter) and keep the doors and windows shut. It will not fix you but if you put it in your bedroom before you go to bed at lest you can get some sleep, which will chear everybody else up.

The next step is to try and work out what sets it off. Is it at home, work, the garden, or everywhere. If your lucky you'll find you have a bush/tree near your home that makes it worse. I say lucky because then you can remove/avoid it.

There are lost of other tips but those are probably the most practical/reliable.

Good luck, I know how much it sucks.

p.s. I never suffered when I was in Queensland, different trees I guess.

Try Bundaberg Rum. Half a bottle and you couldn't give a s+&t about the allergy.

I get pretty bad allergy. Some times I take tablets every day for 2 or 3 weeks.

I don't find I get any adverse reaction from meds like telfast or claratyne.

Thanks for the tips/ advice. As a child I was allergy city, you name it, I was allergic to it. To this day I really shouldnt drink cows milk, hence always have at least one sinus blocked...but live with it. Through winter was fine, on Saturday it just blew up. Funnily enough, when at Fathers Day, the old man is in a unit on the 26th floor at Main Beach right next to the ocean and I was outside most of the time BBQing.....no problems. When I got back in the car to go home ( wasnt driving ) it struck again and woke next morning to 4 children saying Happy Fathers day with concreted together eyes.........won't be posting those happy snaps .

Not a rum drinker Brian ( though will knock it back if offered) so having a couple of beers instead . The Polarimine does work....but boy does it knock you for six. Will look at some alternative remedies and some of the other options. We live on acreage so determining the cause it a little difficult. Will go for a wander and see what affects the most,

    Regards

I only wish my allergies were just seasonal!...I have a chronic conditon 'chronic rhinits' with allergies (itchy eyes, perpetual running nose and sneezing, no sleep..) to pollens, cats, dust etc etc...but in the last 10 yrs or so have had good relief by using Beconase nasal spray...I swaer by the stuff because it works so well for me and I really dont care that it is another foriegn substance because I suspect I would be in a psychiatric ward by now if I hadnt stumbled on it. I have tried everything else under the sun including natropathy/chinese herbalism, desinsitisation and surgery and none of it worked for me..Beconase, the nectar of the gods...

Was about to post a thread along the same lines.
I have NEVER had hayfever in my life.Around 8 years ago I was swathing canola(windrowing it to dry it for harvest),the aircon failed in the tractor and I had to open the windows. My face swelled considerably and ended up having to stop work as I couldnt stop sneezing.Ever since when the canola is in full bloom my sinus' and throat swell and eyes run.We have canola in full bloom all over the district at the moment, looks pretty, but its really starting to annoy me.
Had an antihistamine before going to the Mud comp today, didnt touch the symptoms.
Trying LANDYANDY medicine now,a few cold pints.
