Crikey! Imagine if you were in the car following the truck when they came off.
I suspect no one will claim them just in case they damaged a vehicle.

What Do I Do Now
One returning from an outing this morning I found two very large rolls of cotton fabric, laying on the road each 2 mitre long and 35-40 cm in dia neither roll has any markings relating to ownership. Reported the matter to Qld police they not interested. Phoned several local radio stations and they broadcast my find.
My question is what my legal obligations now are and how long before I can dispose of it or call them mine.

Look up the laws on "stealing by finding"
I THINK it goes something like:
(1) Need to report what you have found to police (and get a report #) - even if they say they aren't interested, if you tell them you wish to report it and get confirmation, I am pretty sure they can't refuse you.
(2) Need to wait a certain period (I think it is 30 days???)
After the specified time period has passed, the goods are yours as long as they are unclaimed.
