Yep, I bought a left hand drive disco in Switzerland. I shipped it back to Victoria last year and guess what? Yeah, you guessed it, I'm not allowed to register it. It's a 2001 model, perfect condition, and now I've no idea what to do with it! Anyone got any ideas?
Yep - thems the rules and have been like that for a long time -
In addition to the above options you could wait the 25-30 years or what ever it is to then legally register it or you could convert to RHD using local parts, get an engineers certificate and then register.

Convert it to RHD would be a 3rd option, but its a bloody massive job!!!!
All manner of stuff needs changing!! including the front axle casing!
actually the more I think about it... dont bother!
good luck

Welcome to the forum.
In response to your question.....
1. Um, wait another 22yrs until you are allowed to register it in Australia?
2. Ship it to the closest LHD nation as Ladas said. (Phillipines, VietNam, Guam, Korea, China, Laos etc).
3. Convert it to RHD, and waste a bucket of money
4. Stick it back on the dock with "RTS - COD Refund" on it![]()
If you were to sell it here, what would it be worth as is?
Damn, that's an annoying one but without wishing to be cruel with something as big as shipping in a car/registering it it always pays to do the research thoroughly before you pay to ship it over. I did loads of research before bringing in the TVR and was very glad I did as the process can be a nightmare if you're unprepared.
Two other options:
1. Use it as an off road only vehicle, you'd need to trailer it till it was off public roads and insurance could be tricky but you could have it as a full-on offroad machine without havign to worry about silly things like RWCs and engineers certificates.
2. See if you can register it in WA as I think LHD vehicles are allowed over there without the same restrictions as in Vic. You could then sell it over there but i doubt you would get much for it unfortunatly, however it would recoup at least some of your outlay although probably not even the cost of the shipping.
In terms of getting the most of your cash back, i'd be thinking breaking it for parts is your best bet.
-edit-
*actually - scratch number 2 - just checked and WA isn't an option either unless the car is over 15yrs old*
say 5k .. as will only be good to strip
If I were you Id part it out.. not sell as a whole

if you got the money turn it into a comp vehicle....
or if you got the money see if you can get it professionally convert back
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
How much would conversion to RHD actually cost? If it was me I'd get a couple of quotes before dismissing that option.
