    Campfires on Fraser?

This being the campfire section of the forum I am wondering what the rules on fires are when beach camping on Fraser Island. I understand that open fires are not allowed but is a steel BBQ with heat beads considered an open fire? We leave for Fraser next weekend. I am counting the sleeps.

Last time i was there was exactly 7 years ago today. National parks allowed visitors to use fire wood that was delivered to the island by contractors, which were offcuts from a timber mill or timber that you brought to the island. Or if you made the heinous mistake of using dead fall from the island, which i did, you would cop a decent fine, but no i didn't cop the fine, i talked my way out of it. NP, would prefer at that time if visitors did use gas bbq.

Policies have probably changed.Ring QNP, Fraser Island.

    From their website..

    Open campfires
Open campfires are prohibited on Fraser Island except in the communal fire rings provided by EPA at Dundubara and Waddy Point campgrounds. Bring your own firewood. Only bring milled timber off-cuts, not bush timber. It helps to reduce risk of introducing pests and plant diseases to the island. Collecting bush wood (even twigs) from the national park is illegal. Never leave a fire unattended, stay with your children and extinguish the fire before leaving the area, using water not sand.
