Why you shouldn't venture too far off road by yourself

Hardly a life threatening situation.

Injuries...yes pride.

Mobile phone reception....hardly wilderness.

If you have a GPS make sure the Pubs are marked as Points Of Interest because the rule is: if you can walk to the Pub you won't die of thirst.

This was a roadside assist situation.

What a waste...maximum embarrassment should be the punishment.

Oberon is Central West? It is just ****ing distance from Penrith albeit by a round about path. Dubbo is Central West.

Perhaps they rang roadside assist and were told that it would cost them $x so they rang the free one instead.

I am more annoyed that the 000 responded instead of just putting their call through to a tow truck company.

It is easy to forget that the SES guys are giving up their own time and their generosity should not be taken for granted or abused.

I am also reassured that the report mentioned that the Hilux was Silver coloured. I might have had a bad night's sleep not knowing what colour it was.:wasntme:

Some years ago, our local 4wd club (this location is just a stone's throw away from here) provided a roster of contact details to the Police and SES for assistance with 4wd recoveries, as it was often beyond the resources or training of Police, but we dropped the idea after getting called to so many STUPID SIMPLE problems, like one bloke who was "Bogged" but drove straight out of the puddle after locking his front hubs when told how to! Was a tidy earner for the club, and a good way to hone your vehicle recovery skills, but liability and tax issues raised their ugly head, and people were getting jack of callouts to imbeciles.

Thats how it works out on stocko beach these days and ive been told its not cheap makes self recovery equipment seem cheap or resorces of good local help :D:D:D:D
