    Melbourne Horse Float Hire

    hey everyone
after a bit of general info, i have a couple of mules (horsies) which im thinking about towing up to my relatives farm for a few days around the Melb Cup long weekend.

I have done the normal servo tandem float hire thing before to transport them around but their rates are normally about $85 bucks a day, so having a float out for 5 days can become a bit of an expensive proposition.

Does anyone know of places in Melbourne which hire out horse floats for 4-5 days at a reasonable rate?

I live in Vermont, the horses live in Lilydale at Windsor Park Stud, heading up past Whitfield in the King Valley (northeast of Mansfield)

    Thanks
    Andrew

    Gday Andrew,

We hired one the other day from a place in Coldstream (Coldstream Float and Trailer hire), they are on Killara rd next to the IGA.

It was $75 a day, but not sure what there rates were for longer periods. Might be worth a call?

    There number is 97391598

    cheers

    Darren

The road from Mansfield to Whitfield will be a hell of a struggle with a double float and two horses, plus very little room to pull over for passing.

What sort of vehicle are you towing with?

Its a D2 V8 auto and yes the hills wouldn't be a pleasant ride for the car or the horsies. We go up there regularly as my relatives have a farm at upper rose river at the base of Mt Cobbler so know the roads well (was there last weekend actually, big bike ride on thru the hills which was scary).

Im actually going to take the long and safe way round, pick up the horsies in Lilydale, head up the Melba Hwy to Merton or Maindample and then turn north and head to the Hume and then head north-east to Glenrowan, then go across to Oxley via the snow road and back down the valley to Whitfield. Should cost me about an hour but im sure the slow and dangerous trip through the Tolmie hills would prolly add at least half an hour anyways with the heffer's on the back.

Fortunatly the terrible two-some arent too big, one is a 14 hand arab and the other a 15 hand standie so not too bad.

Ahh, good idea. I'm not far from the Merton-Euroa Rd. It's not too bad M-E but from E-M there is a steepish climb over several kilometres. Go north on the Midland Hwy from Maindample.

Hope nobody minds me posting another link
