    Went bush, saw D3's, impressed.

I went bush North of Lithgow on saturday with my wife's nephew who ownes an 80 series cruiser. I know but it gets worse, he used to own a disco, he wanted a fenda but swmbo wouldn't come at it. Anyway that was a few years ago and he never went bush in it. This was his first time out for serious 4wding. Doing "telegraph line" we came up behind a bunch of shiny new D3's and a new Deefer. I watched them go up the cross axled track with interest and when I got to the top learned that they were a Trivett outing, I've heard of these, good on Trivett. I got my first look at the new fenda and the owner invited me to sit in the drivers seat, very very nice. They went their way and we went ours. I did "pipeline" with the nephew in the passenger seat and the cruiser parked, he decided against it. All terrains closer to road terrains and only a toyo lsd and we all know what they are like but he was concerned, rightly, about the damage that the side steps would do to the door sills as they got ripped off.
Anyway, on to "ranger bob's" fire trail, up the first climb then stuck behind the Trivett convoy again, this time we got to walk up and watch them go through a sharp deep slightly cross axled trough as they climbed and we were both very impressed with how they handled it. I thought the disco's would have scraped front and rear body bits left right and centre but no problems at all. I guess they are better designed than I thought!
The nephew and I got through and we commented to each other that it was not really fair, here are these well dressed people from Sydney on their first bush outing doing tracks that were always reserved for the experienced and making it all look so easy.
Oh well, if it gets them out there it's a good thing !!
The tour guide enjoyed watching my deefer in action and used what I was doing to explain a few differences to some of the more technically enhanced attendees.
It was a very interesting day out.
No pics, the wife forgot to empty the camera for me.
    Steve.

The D3s would have had the standard crap Wranglers on.

Ask anyone who owns one. I kept up with a lifted Pootrol at Menai quite happily.

You don't have to be well dressed, but why rough it when you can do it easily, well and in style.

When are you getting one to replace the Defer Steve?

    I drove a base D3 S with a 4L V6.
I was so impressed, totally isolated from what is going on below.
We did nothing too demanding but where the car was pointed it went, no drama.

The inside is a bit plastic but by god, there is some serious technology going on.

While looking at the new deefer I said I'd love one of these and the Trivett guy appeared from nowhere saying he could arrange that!!!
But I'll stick to my trusty low tech version I think.
    I like having "Driver input"
