Singleton Army Cadet Camp - anyone going?

I will be up there - I'm not in the military, but will be working alongside the good medics of the ADF to patch the cadets up when they come unstuck. (Those in the know will understand... )

    Anyone else going?

I will only be there for this weekend unfortunately. I have been every year for the last 3 years and it is always good fun, and occasionally gory!

I'm not going, though a few cadets from our unit and an officer will be there. Should be great fun - cadet camps always are.... well, any camping is for that matter.

    Area 8?
    Cheers

Maybe, but I will find out when I'm up there. Usually we have a crew live out at 8/9 so we tend not to rotate crews through there too much.

I'll probably get suckered into something at Command on Centre Ridge - but I'd rather be out in the gore. Depending on how Ambrose goes tonight, I might even drive him up there!

I know I run the risk of looking like a ****** ("ooh look - the civvy wannabe ambo brought an army ambulance along... tryhard!") But I really dont give a Foxtrot.

Was there in 1975 helping the Cadets fire SLR's, yes 7.62 and yes there was some tears. Some thought that if they just held it a little of the shoulder then.....well that's what bouht on the tears.

By the way I had a Yamaha RD 350 and en-route to Windsor across the Putty ( a good ride ) the mungral stopped (wiring) at dusk!! Well b***ger me a Blood Box came along and we put the bike in the back and returned to Singleton. Good chaps I say.

By crikey, that brings back memories.
I was in the cadets when I attended Westmead high school.
Must have been 1953 that I done the Singleton camp.
In those days, we used the 303, Bren, Owen ( a beautiful weapon ),
Vickers, 25 pounder and the Mills 36 grenade.

A few days after our return, our Corporal ( a nice kid ), was killed by
lightening on a golf course. Always remembered his name but its gone now, I've just discovered.

Geeeeez - some of you blokes are showing your age.

I wasn't going to mention that I also went to Singleton on Cadet camp when I was at Marist College in Forbes in, oh, around 1973.

Was one of the best experiences I can remember from back in those years. We even went to the airforce base near Newcastle (can't remember the name - Richmond rings a bell) and went on a flight in a Caribou.
    Cheers .........

Ahhh Singleton,,,,brings back memories for me as well. When I was at Kings in the 80's we had our cadet camps there. Vege bombs going off in the camp fires, been yelled at by men in uniform, one of the tossers in our group switching to auto on the M16 and nearly mowing us all down. I was a medic in 5th Form, poor choice as I couldnt stand the sight of blood. Doing a drop bear and having the tree snapped.....you can guess the rest. I did love my cadet days ,

    Regards

    Stevo
