    LR Maxi-Drive on ebay.

Don't know if anyone on here is bidding on this?

landrover maxi drive difflock - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 30-Sep-08 14:27:14 AEST)

Just in case - the pic does not appear to show the most important part - the the female dog gear which the actuator (male) dog gear mates with.

When you buy an MD locker, you need to give Mal your hemisphere, and he machines off one of the bearing sleeves, and splines the hemisphere to accept a press fit gear/bearing sleeve.

If the gear (or better still the complete (modified) hemisphere, is not included, there would be a lot of $$$ custom machining needed to make the part - now that MD are no more.

I asked the seller about this, but they have not replied. EDIT - seller eventually replied - see below

This is just an FYI, so that someone doesn't end up with an incomplete locker kit.

Also - the kit cannot fit BOTH a defender AND county. Drum-braked salisbury diffs have axles which are about 15mm longer.

In case the above wasn't clear, this pic should help:

The above picture shows 1/2 of the hemisphere (the half which the crownwheel bolts to). If you look inside, you will see some splines.

The original bearing sleeve has been removed by mal story and replaced with a press-fit, splined bearing sleeve.

Also, the hemisphere halves are matched, so you would need the other half as well.

NOTE - the seller MAY have the hemisphere, and just not have photographed it.

I just RANG the seller and he states that the fellow (which one would assume is Barry), Is onnering all machine work on unused/new kits, so isn;t an issue, also the paperwork states the machine work required and contacts

He specifically made mention of maxi-drive closeing down so was well aware of what he was talking about

Best to exhaust all options of contact first

Its an UNUSED kit, meaning you have to send YOUR carrier to be machined, as always has been the case with a Sals

Thanks Matt - good to hear.

I didn't call him as I wasn't interested myself. I messaged him, and when no answer after 24 hrs, I posted on here just so any potential purchaser on here could double check before bidding.

It was entirely possible that he sold the modified hemisphere with the car. Glad to hear this is not the case. I have never heard of someone getting a kit before they have supplied their hemisphere. When I did mine, I dropped off the hemisphere when I picked up my kit.

It will be a cheap locker for whoever gets it.

EDIT - Matt - you didn't happen to ask if it was for a disc or drum braked sals did you???

EDIT #2 - the seller replied to my message about 2 minutes ago. Obviously after Matt's phone call.
the ktt is complet the later kits were supplied so that your diff center was to be sent up to maxi drive mechened then sent back to you the instructions in the explain every thing that needs doing. daniel

However, If I was bidding, I would still contact Barry (Hytuff Eng) ASAP to verify.

I don't know if the seller changed the description, but it says, "heavy duty axles and end caps to sute any disc brake landrover deffender or 110 county".

Since my County still has the hoses and switches in place for front and rear Maxi's and the front diff still has the actuator case, I might go for this.

Bah, sniped at the very end while I was on the phone to the bloke.

I also spoke to Barry, he's got nothing to do with honouring the machining side of things, so it would be a case of getting in touch with Mal. (Though he did say he had the tools to do it.)

No that is the same description. However there is no such thing as a (factory) disc-braked county. If you are converting one, it is possible to do a conversion using the wide-spacing hubs - so there is no guarantee it would fit.

    Shame you missed out.

Do you still have the modified hemisphere? If so, all you need are 2 axles, locking dog and actuator. If you are really nice to Barry or Mal then something may be possible.

He had intended to disc-brake his County. Hence the rear-county-disc combo.

He was a nice bloke though - he phoned me after the auction and gave me a lead on a rear maxi from a Rangie.
