Perhaps, but I suspect most people fit snorkels because the dealer/aftermarket supplier had a good salesman! (or they think it looks good)
I have never felt the serious need for a snorkel (although I have thought about it), despite the fact that I have often waded well above the manufacturer's maximum limit, occasionally above bonnet level, and live in a very dusty environment. The intake on the 110 is well placed and the improvement with a snorkel would be fairly small. Plus on the 110 the snorkel would need to be on the right and interfere with my vision.

I think that they're cheap insurance. Ive seen too many hydrauliced motors.
Yeah it wouldn't be nice drowning your pride and joy.
TIM.
One is too many! But in over forty years of offroad driving I have yet to see one resulting from wading*, possibly because most of my driving has been in the drier parts of the country.
*The only ones that come to mind resulted from dropping valve heads. (not in Landrovers)

I'll admit I hadn't bothered with this thread... but I was wrong.. it's a classic!
To snorkels - we recently put one on our car. I did it reluctantly. We had a trip planned to the gulf and I wasn't sure how much water was going to be involved!
