Well i really only wanted this to be about donating to the hospital . but as usual things get side tracked and we are talking about heart attacks and fatty fatty boom bars :p:D. Please just donate which ever way you want to . It's all about helping sick kids in the end :D:(;).
McDonalds isn't a charity its a corporation and the charity work it does is called corporate advertising.
When McDonals built the restaurant in the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne they had all sorts of negotiations about being able to sell their food without competition from the hospital own cafeteria's.
When staff and unions opposed to McDonalds being allowed to open that hospital outlet, McDonalds served writs on them demanding massive damages against them over their claims about food being junk.
Royal Childrens Hospitals are Government and State and Federal Government should fund them to provide the level of services required not have taxpayers fund the shortfall out of their charity pockets and then have smugg Rudd and dumb Howard like politicians smirk about Government billion dollar surpluses, which only means they have under spent the taxes they collect or over taxed us in the first place.
If you want to make a charitable donation do the 100% thing and give them the money you would have spent at McDonalds not just the $1 from each burger sold McDonalds offering.
It regularly annoys me how a company (McDumb in this case) combines profit with charity for the sole reason of PR. If one remembers how many children (and adults) have health issues already at a very young age just because of all this junk food all these PR-efforts appear hypocritical, to say the least.
What would people say if Philp Morris should announce that one buck of every pack of Marlboro sold goes to the nearest pulmonary hospital or clinic???
I don't think it matters where the money comes from.
I think there are a lot of families that are grateful for Ronald McDonald House.
The kitchens at McDonald's are clean from what I've seen (working on commercials, not serving chips:D), couldn't say the same for the others.
Cheers
Simon
way way OT here (never stopped me before, so why now:angel:)
McDonalds food is beneath me and in particular it is beneath my kids. Give me anything from the local fish n chip shop anyday in preference to the golden arches if I must have take away (rarely do).
I'll admit I worked in a McDonalds as a kid - they even went so far as to chart the cost of big mac production at each store and compare store vs store on a trend graph in full view of all the staff (not customers of course) - sale price at that time was over $2 per big mac, production cost was under $0.50 (everything in, including labour, rental of the shop, depreciation, marketing, packaging, geez even ingredients:o etc...) Thats a 400% profit. the poor blardy farmers growing spuds and lettuce and tomatoes etc for them get screwed over bigtime... I hate big corporations throwing their weight around, but thats business...
