I don't think there is really anywhere that is free from the effects of severe storms, just different places get different types.
We seem to be prone to the 'east coast low' and have had winds 100kph+ for 2 or 3 days, also the odd supercell storm as occurred in 1991, certainly some good hail storms ~ 1977, 1999, 2007.
I'm not sure but hail seems to be on the increase, we used to rarely get hail at Heathcote, but we've had 3 damaging hail episodes in the last 3 years.
I suspect Brissy looks somewhat like this now we are a few days down the track

I found out yesterday that the inlaws (Keperra) were hit pretty hard, but the house is ok. They had army guys helping clean up for a day or two.
We just got nailed, huge storm...thunder..lightening...having to run around and collect animals....one is missing. Had to change daks as one thunder clap almost gave me a heart attack. Apparently hail around Nerang, now just seeing the assend of it, good luck and wishes for those further up, mother nature is peesed orf:o

A branch (possibly associated with the tree that was lying on my neighbours roof) had landed on my roof and broke 7 roof tiles above the bathroom and toilet which were both flooded with water.
We had bought a tidy little Camry to replace my old Discovery (was for sale) about 2 weeks ago, now the Camry and the old Disco both have hail damage all over as well as damage to both from falling branches. Luckily both are comprehensively insured.
Had loss of power til mid Tuesday so all of our perishables had to be chucked.
And to top it all off, went to the cricket yesterday, and instead of going to the pub afterwards to get fully loaded (save some money to pay the excesses) I got my wife to come and pick me up. We got caught in traffic in the Valley just as yesterdays storm came through and were hailed on in the newer Disco. Checked it this morning and there is a tiny bit of damage, but it's a toss up whether to leave it or pay the $500 excess to get it fixed.
All in all though we have gotten out of it pretty lightly compared to alot of people so we are greatful for that. We still have our health and our prized possessions (can't say the same for the father inlaw though - fell off his roof onto his head and now has fractured eye socket, 2.5 missing teeth, stitches in bottom lip from where teeth went through and 2 busted shoulders).

We had some ADF members help us clean up around here and we would like to give them a big thankyou aswell any civvy that has helped. We were pretty lucky as only had broken windows and water damage (all covered by insurance). I have been working at the Ferny Grove Transfer Station the last 7 night as we opened 24hr's untill today, if anyone was wondering we handle about half of the green waste from the damage and we managed to mulch all that had come in and that turned into over 4500 tonnes and now the green waste has nearly been cleaned up the rubbish is starting to roll in and we have been putting out around 100 to 120 tonnes a day and only just keeping our heads above water, the pit is hardly empty
