    Good point.
Though I should point out my Series 1 Disco has airbags and used to have an ARB airbag compatible bar on it, complete with crush cans. The bar had built in recovery points which got used a fair few times and I never had any problems with the 'cans' (not from recoveries anyway).
I guess it's a matter of degree - the more violent the recovery the more likely it is that something will get bent or broken.

The ones Angus mentioned above - the 4X4intelligence ones are the bees knees of their kind...they weight 2kg each without the bolts! I will try and get some photos of the 2 on mine.

    Cheers

NOTE THAT I HAVE NOT USED MINE FOR A RECOVERY YET

With the help of Blknight I have installed a couple of swivel points on the ARB Bumper on my D2. I bought these off DRanged who feels confident it is okay to recover from the bar and he seems to be experienced in recovering. Snatching places a higher maximum force than winching and there is a risk of weakening of the crush cans but in practical terms will it make a difference? I am no engineer but I suspect not. I am of course carrying a risk which others may not be prepared to do.

We were careful to mount in line with the chassis points thus preventing the problem of levering the bar back into the vehicle. I used 130x130x6mm backing plate behind them.

Attached are thumbnails of an alternative method of recovery points (provided you're handy with a welder and angle grinder) which can be mounted to any vehicle with a steel bull bar. There is, of course, one each side and they are in line with the chassis rails.

They have the added advantage that they can be used to attach either a solid tow bar or an 'A' frame and can also be used to manouver your trailer into tricky locations.

I would imagine that the recovery vehicle would lose traction well before these broke but I will be putting in a higher rated bolt on the advice of someone very experienced.

I like the idea although with crush cans they may be too high for a snatch recovery. There have been a couple of times I could have used a receiver at the front of the vehicle.

I have standard 2-bolt recovery hooks bolted to each side of the TJM winch cradle. They point down slightly, just enough for an attached strap to clear the bottom edge of the bar.
