BUT i hate the previous owners who think years of beach driving with nil maintenance underneath the car is acceptable. NEVERSIEZE is not that expensive, or a cheap spraycan to paint the exposed threads on bolts, paint is much easier to remove than rust.
Thought I'd stick new tie-rod ends on the other day, mrs asks how long ya gonna be, we're going out soon. 4tie-rod ends 15mins each allow for coffee & ciggy, clean-up time be ready in 2 hours honey.
WRONG
Weld the draglink to the back of the boat trailer because the vice woudn't hold it, then tierod snaps off in draglink, drilling, tapping, cleaning, HEAPS of neversieze. A bit over 2 hours later have got 2 done.Wash up go out finish the battle the following day.
Was all worth it steers beautifully again.
How many of you are mechanic's?.Do you find LR's hard to work on because you work in an office or other non hands on work?.Lokka is right,do a 100,000k service on any V6 jap car and then go back to your LR.I would change the plugs on 10 V8 disco's in the time it takes to do one camry, and that's including smoko. Totally get it
On pro's & cons of doing your own mechanics is
If you just keep to the tarmac roads ... not knowing the mechanics of your ride is OK ... You will survive
So the bonus to doing your own maintenance & repairs ... is if you break down in the "middle of nowhere", you can't exactly call the RAC to tow you out .... So knowing how to make repairs on the spot is vital .... As you place your life & trust in your ride when traveling off the beaten track

Don't really hate anything on Kevin. But the door locks not working properly is anoying. So i just disconected them.lol![]()
Land Rovers in Australia are a dream to work on
IN the UK every nut and bolt seizes with rust.the trick there is, instead of undoing them, you tighten them until they snap ,then put new ones on.cut through the bolt either side of a radius arm bush, easier than jumping up and down on your breaker bar.
At least your hands are so cold you don't feel the pain when you take your knuckles off when the spanner slips.well, not until you have to warm them up under the hot tap!!!!
The part I hate most on my RR ,fuel consumption, i`m best mates with the servo staff
I seem to spend more time with them than I do my family, i`m sure Ive seen the owner rub his hands together with a grin on his face when I tow the boat.
So if anyone has a cheep diesel engine for sale , please let me know![]()
There isn;t enough room on the page,
but then I think it applies to most vehicles, they all have most hated parts to get to,
like when you have to do the filter replacement on the zf box, you have to take off the crossmember otherwise the oil pan won't come off then there is the bolt that holds the filter on, what a pain. Whose idea was that!
and don;t forget you need the dainty hands of a chicken sexer on the impossibly large sized spanners and sockets to get to bolts in places where they shouldn;t be.
I've been told to do a full spark plug change on a jag/daimler x series V12 is nothing short of an engine removal!!! so landies are easy in comparison
Oh to be a design engineer, visualise it, and the conversations,
' MMM these will be worked on by the owners, for fun lets put a few obstructions in the way, or better still lets put a bolt in that nobody has a socket or spanner for , we'll call it an OEM item !!!
motor vehicles = tools of the devil!
