Yeah, so if the error is allowed at 10% then surely it is 5% either side of the maximum allowable.
Therefore if traveling at 106 in a 100 zone you would be 1KMpH over the allowable margin wouldn't you?

the ADRS are written such that the error on the speedo may only be over your 10% is over speed IE your speedo may say 110 and you are actually doing 100 no speedo is permitted to read underspeed as in you are doing 100 and the speedo reads 90.
you can be booked for 1KPH over the limit but the general rule of thumb is +5 or +10%. There was a spate in 01 in sydney where the cops blatently advertised their presence on every road leading to a school and then booked everyone caught doing over 40kph and no-one got out of it, they even went to the extent of taking out an ad in the district paper the week before.
IF you have some types of cruise control you can use that to get out of it PROVIDING you can satisfactoraly prove you set it correctly.

I knew I was correct (at least for pre-06 ADRs) because it was challenged in Victoria a while back - don't know the outcome - other than the Vic governmemt said it was the responsibility of owners to know the error in their speedos and take that into account - the "defence" said that then that should be legislated - however as pre 06 cars were permitted to have a 10% error it was unreasonable to book people within 10% of the speed limit - this may have even prompted the change in ADR requirements.

all of that is why you should let engineers make rules and not beurocrats.
whats going to get super interesting is when the new breed of GPS corrected speedos comes out......
I'm waiting for GPS with calibrated maps of speed zones and user selectable alarms - this will be a good compromise for the user to know whats what.
That said, lets face facts, everyone knows when they speed but it is human nature to push boundaries - when we get caught the natural reaction is to find a scapegoat other than ourselves to blame. IMHO, a calibrated camera is working within it's operating parameters. If you are speeding and you get caught, it aint the camera, its you at fault. Blame the law makers for being unjust, but it remains the law until changed - live with it or move.
PS - my missus got done for 21km over 2 weeks back... ouch...
