    amazing! buying parts

    interesting thing !
    Hi all,
I was looking for an indicator/horn stalk for the new old 130, and was shopping around in Australia, i got quoted $292 (wtf) from British off road in qld.
So i contacted a firm in the U.K. that i used to use Famous Four in Louth Lincolnshire, with D.H.L. courier service it came to £68 = $109.35, which is a massive saving, how comes the parts dealers in Australia want to fleece the hell out of us ??
I guess it's because they can, i had the same thing when i had the disco i bought from Mandurah starter motor was a small mortgage (a second hand part) i never thought of buying from the u.k. at that stage, but wished i had.
whilst i was on the phone to Louth i also purchased two fuel filters for £4=$9.41 and two oil filters £2.95=$6.94, now the cost in Aus of these products i am not sure but i bet they are keen.
I am thinking of getting a container put together once i find out what i need, i think front door skins might be the go, and general bits and pieces i discover along the way, obviously it would be landed in freo, but was wondering if it would be possible to tie up with this site bits that other people need for their vehicles and save us all a heap of cashola!!
As Famous four do genuine and non genuine products there are some good prices on all manner of hardware, accessories etc
Now i have not thought this through so don't know the logistics of this idea, but there must be a bunch of you getting fleeced as well, maybe it is a goer !! regards Andy

Not a bad idea but you will want to fill a container so you make the $2000 or so for a 20ft from Tilbury/Southhampton to Freo worth while.

The boys at Rovercraft look after us pretty well. There are other non dealer specialists all over the country that can do A LOT better than dealers.

I agree it definately pays to shop around. When I had the petrol Disco the main fuse for the fuel injection died. I rang Landrover and was quoted $88 for the genuine part. Relay is actually made by Bosch so I rang the local Bosch dealer and was quoted $22 for the same part.

I think the $A is pretty strong against the pound right now. That might not last three months. I reckon it takes about six weeks for a container get get from there to here. some of that pricing is probably a buffer.

    Cheers
