    cluch swap

g'day, i'm still on the topic of transfer cases, I was told the reason defenders get backlash in the transfer box was because of the way the cluch is in a defender, and that's why you never hear of discos with transfer backlash, even thoe it has the same engine, gear, and transfer box. so i'm wondering if any one has converted a defender cluch to a disco cluch so they don't stuff the next box.

    any info would be grate

you dont hear it as much in a disco as they have sound insulation whereas the defer's dont... but believe me they get backlash

Maybe the ratio in the clutch pedal operation between a disco and a defender is slightly different , but i doubt very much if that is the cause of backlash

Mate i hope your pockets have drainage cause someone is pizzing in em

Most of the back lash has bugger all to do with the clutch it is inherent in rovers ya live with it as its a combanation of things from lash at the CW+P to the unis to the slip yolks in the drive shafts to the back lash in the CDL and transfer and then the back lash in the gearbox output into the transfer ...

The only thing the clutch has to do with back lash is if its either stuffed and it would shudder if it was causing back lash or if the clutch is used harshly it will make the back lash seem worse driving a rover with a clutch requires some finness a mate of mine has the clunky shift tho i can drive his county without a single clunk it just takes practice

I have a disco here with 300k on clock with R380 and LT230. I have also noticed doesn't seem to clunk and clatter like county/ Defenders with less KMs. I put it down to better sound insulation and well sorted clutch ratio as mentioned before. Fenders may have a heavier preassure plate?

the fender can have a heavier clutch but then so can the disco....

its same same across the board, theres nothing you can do clutch wise thats going to mask the backlash of a tcase short of putting the worlds longest dampning springs in it, and if your going to do that you might as well fit a TC.
