    Sheep Slaughterer

SWMBO,(AKA The Grinch) just returned from a trip over to Narrogin.
A tad shaken as 6 sheep challenged her to a game of chicken in the Rangie.Rangie 6 sheep nil.
Luckilly she remebered the golden rule, break as safely as possible and mow on thru.
Luckilly no damage,BUT lots of blood and guts under and on the panels,wool/skin/meat hanging off every nut and bolt underneath the Rangie. It smells like a lamb roast thats been on for half an hour.

Not that long ago in Vic, if you mowed down a farmers stock like that then you had to pay for them.

That was when farmers were alowed to graze on the road and you were not meant to drove very fast in country areas.

I dare say things would be much different these days, the Grinche would be now able to sue for damages (car cleaning....$20,000) plus mental anguish ( another $20k) and then if she ever has trouble eating lamb again or she thinks of the accident every time she does then she could probably be able to go on TAC until such time that she no longer thinks of it.

Just a question.....did she keep any for the freezer

Yep it was a bit of a wild ride Loka, the Rangie launched to the wrong side of the road when one went under the wheels.
The boy called her "The Grinch" after watching the movie when he was real young. It stuck

I was always taught that if you hit livestock and it was your safest option at the time then it's fine. Just let the farmer know even if it was his wrong doing that made it happen.

Who is in the wrong depends on the circumstances. The local shire (in Victoria) requires me and other farmers to have a $10 million public liability policy before granting an annual permit to drove cattle and sheep along the road between properties, probably largely to reduce risk of claims against the shire

When those droving stock on the roads are complying with all relevant regulations, including having warning signs, generally the stock have right of way and motorists who collide with them are liable. Public Liability would probably mainly apply when unattended stock are hit. I could have claimed for pushed back bull bar and a bit of guard damage on Defender about three years ago after killing a stray black cow on a black night but haven't yet got around to straightening it properly. Same thing would have written off a lot of vehicles.

When droving stock , there is the occasional stupid two legged animal to deal with as well as four legged ones. eg such as once with cattle I was having enough trouble with anyway. A truckie I know other farmers had complaints about gave a blast on the air horns just after passing through them. They bolted in every direction.

I once got the local police to have a word to a mad former female neighbour who was up herself and had regularly driven too fast and dangerously through stock on the road in the area. Unfortunately she largely dragged basically decent husband to her level.

Another time when an arrogant smartarse in a car was forcing his way through sheep when he should have stopped, an employee of mine came very close to driving at him head on with a four wheel drive and probably would have if hubs had been locked. Would have been quite capable of pushing cars backwards. Police would have probably approved whether or not it was legal.
