    Man drowns at Sundown NP

A man has drowned after being swept away in strong currents while trying to cross a river at Ballandean, 250km south-west of Brisbane, early on Saturday morning.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was driving a four-wheel drive over the Severn River at Sundown National Park, just before 4am (AEST).

The CCCC trip there last weekend was restricted in park access due to the river being too deep and flowing very quickly at some crossings - glad we chose to backtrack. But the 4am timeframe - weird time to be driving in the NP I would have thought - it wouldn't have been light yet.

Last weekend we were in front when we got to the river and we said no way would we try to negotiate the 30mtr crossing the water was running way too fast and too deep.

    Oh No.

This will only lead to one thing. Closures.

For those without the brains to look after themselves.

It is a loop track with no REAL NEED to do it if the the river is in that condition other than bravado and stupidity. Bit high a price to pay.

Got a quick call from my son, apparently the guy went for a walk into the water to test the depth & did not return.
He did not try to drive through, they dont know who he was,and hadnt seen him.

They said the fun for the weekend was watching,& helping the police& emergency services vehicles get through the mud.
